About The Artist

HARITHA SHAN

Growing up and working in Kuala Lumpur has provided Senior Artist Haritha Shan with a wealth of inspiration. “Our tourism ads don't lie,” she jokes, “it really is ‘Malaysia, Truly Asia!’” With dual-Chinese/Indian heritage, she says there is no better place for her eclectic tastes and style. It’s here that she began her career, helping out with the school cheerleading team, before going on to master the tricks of liquid eyeliner application. “I love it,” she confesses. “I use every kind whether it's gel, liquid, kohl or cream.” Her repertoire goes beyond just that however, as she tells us about her ten-year trajectory to becoming one of M·A·C’s best-loved artists.

2, 4, 6, 8…

“My first experience with makeup was back in school when I was in charge of doing makeup for the cheerleading team. I had never even held a makeup brush before! With zero knowledge or experience to lean on, I just went with my gut and did whatever felt right. Those poor girls were my first guinea pigs and I’m still too afraid to look through old pictures to see what I did to them. I'm glad my skills have improved over the years.”

Ace of Base

“A good base is key and I usually keep my look really natural in the mornings with an added twist at night. This can be achieved easily with Feline Kohl Power Eye Pencil and a pop of matte Lipstick in Honeylove. I'm totally obsessed with Waveline Fluidline too, which you can manipulate to be a shade of indigo or deep blue. For day time looks, I recommend Pro Longwear SPF 20 Compact Foundation, which gives awesome coverage and sun protection and Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Dark because it creates a great contour, works great on eyes and also as a blush.”

Barbie Girl

“I’ve been working for M·A·C for ten years, beginning at the counters. My favourite shoot by far was Barbie loves M·A·C! I was brand new to the company and it was the first M·A·C event I attended. It had a huge impact on me. It was truly magical to see Barbie transformed into real people with different skin tones. Especially a real-life Barbie so close to my skin tone! It was like being a kid all over again and the event really summed up for me the inclusive and progressive philosophy of the M·A·C brand.”
